Today is Earth day

When I was at school I always wanted to do something “good” for the environment. I liked saving tadpoles that were born in puddles in the gravel pit and were close to death in the summer because their breeding grounds and nurseries were in danger of drying up.

But as a teenager other people were able to influence me easily. Computer science, physics and mathematics appeared to me more promising with regard to one having a good living. My hay fever allergy did not necessarily strengthen my environmental interest. So I ended up with media informatics. That really excited me so much that I wrote my own software and founded my first company (www.media21.de). That was over 20 years ago.

But the customer projects burned me out. Senseless services and sometimes even environmentally harmful products or services wanted to be sold well on the web. I had to get out of there. That was around 2015. After a phase of reorientation, it was clear in 2018 that I would have to create something that was meaningful to me and leave the “old world” behind. I remembered my roots again: the importance of preserving the environment.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” – Mahatma Gandhi

The earth carries us. Humanity has submitted to it to the extent that it has forgotten that earth is our basis. It is the basis of our existence. We should not further decouple from it and create artificial worlds on distant planets. We can do that, no question. But not at the expense of existing mother earth.

I am so grateful for Greta Thunberg and her “Skolstrejk för klimatet” and Fridays for Future movement giving the issues of global warming, species extinction and global social inequalities the visibility they deserve. Now is the time to change directions – carefully but definitely – so that people really deserve the self-given title “Crown of Creation”.

With blufoo, I want to create a long-term, commonly organized, financed and community-oriented company that contributes its part in giving back people meaning, responsibility, joy and dignity at least as far as we can.

I invite you to participate with your knowledge, skills and enthusiasm!

Let’s tackle it!
Daniel
